![]() ![]() We drove all the way down from Denver after skiing a day in summit county. Stay half hour to hour away in Pagosa springs, Alamosa, or further in Durango. While no lodging at the place, get over it, cuz of the skiing. It’s not a fancy resort, but a ‘skiers place’. Yet this place is modest and ‘affordable’ for skiing, with $80 weekday lift tix and $90 wkd tix.Ĭan ski here for two days for the price of one in summit county. Plenty of terrain for a couple days of skiing, and while we didn’t have a powder day, this place would be spectacular on a powder day with so much space in the trees. Alberta lift is awesome for getting out in solitude on the mountain and skiing through trees and moguls and trails on the way down. Definitely recommend Wolf Creek to any family looking for a place to go! It was perfect for us beginners but they had so many trails and lifts we could have done.Īs avid skiers, we look for fun terrain and good, plentiful snow.įor 20-21, snow is in short supply. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and we will never forget their kindness. Thanks to these fine folks my children had an awesome day and walked away knowing how to ski and wanting to do it again. Even one of the lift operators Ernesto, jumped in and helped and rode with one of the kids that was afraid to ride the lift alone. They were both soooo patient and graceful with the kids. Soon, his fellow instructor be Kathy came to our rescue too and helped with the kids. He helped get our 11 year old up on the lift and then the 8 year old down the hill the first time. Not long after we had been standing next to the beginners lift an instructor, Josh, who was there helping, even though they aren't doing lesson right now thanks to COVID-19, came to our aid. My wife was the only one of the six of us that had ever skiied so it took us a little while to adjust to even standing on the skis. We rented skis for me, my wife and 4 children at Pagosa Ski Rentals (very reasonable and so nice) and took off to Wolf Creek. We made the trek down yesterday after flying into Denver and it has been worth it. 5) LIFTS: all lifts were open! & they didn't check my ski pass every time we got on a lift.I can't say enough good things about the folks we met today at Wolf Creek Ski Resort. 3) POWDER: lots of snow the week prior to our arrival, 4) EQUIPMENT RENTAL: each day u can leave ur skis/board/poles/ski boots (not board boots) at the rental place. Hmmm, let's see, it is March, spring break, & guess what-it's going to be busy-EVERY YEAR, how can u not plan on having enough staff? 4) SLOPES: the signage on each run needs to be more clear they are hard to read & need more of them. After waiting around for 40 minutes for a supervisor, they opened another class BUT the student to instructor ratio was 22:1-example-Breckenridge has an 8-10 ratio! What a waste of money! Of course their excuse was that they just didn't have enough staffing. Upon arrival at ticket office, we were told "sorry, we're booked". 3) LESSONS: First, u can't book on line second, prior to arriving I called for ski lessons for 2 of our first time skiers-was told no reservations needed. 2) LOCKER-there are not enough lockers to keep your personal belongings (neither in the equipment rental area nor the bathrooms) so we had to go back down to our car to lock our stuff up. ![]() No one was outside inside staff said "there should be 3 people" so we ended up picking out our own poles out of an extremely unorganized mess of tangled poles. Also, we were told to just go out side and someone would give us poles. They didn't take much time to fit us or explain the pros/cons of our equipment. C-O-N-S: 1) RENTAL EQUIPMENT-we rented our equipment at the ski area which we never do-we usually rent our equipment in town when visiting different ski areas & it was somewhat unprofessional. ![]()
